JMU students will receive support, guidance, and medical attention in a caring, confidential manner. Intervention and referral decisions are made together with the student and based on the most eminent need.

Campus Police employs investigators with twenty-four hour coverage for assault and other serious crimes. They work closely with our office, Counseling and Student Development Center, and the SANE nurses at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. The investigators will assist victims who may need immediate medical attention, and inform students of their options regarding criminal, judicial, or civil action. A victim's sense of comfort and control during the reporting and investigation process is of primary concern to the department, which maintains confidentiality at the victim's discretion.
CARE (Campus Assault ResponsE)

The CARE helpline is for individuals who have been directly or indirectly affected by sexual assault. CARE operates on a pager-voicemail system and is available 24 hours, 7 days a week. The caller will receive a phone call from a trained volunteer within 15 minutes.

The WRC is dedicated to the education and empowerment of our community by supporting and celebrating the diversity of women. A student can expect to receive support and direction when seeking help from our office. All WRC volunteers will provide the student with information from the various resources available on and off campus.

The CSDC provides confidential individual and group counseling services for JMU students striving to overcome sexual assault history. Services are available for survivors, perpetrators, partners of survivors, and concerned family and friends of survivors.

When a victim of sexual assault seeks help from ORL, they can expect personal support, professional discretion, and timely referral to campus and community resources. Each residence hall is staffed with a hall director and resident advisors. These staff members are specially trained to provide support for students, including emergency response.

The Office of Judicial Affairs offers a caring approach to victims of violence. They help JMU students throughout the judicial process, ensuring that every victim is aware of their options and all judicial procedures. The victim does not need to schedule an appointment in advance. Immediate accommodations are made for the victim to feel comfortable remaining at JMU until the case is resolved.
