- Seek approval for offering the badge with your AUH and dean.
- Complete the Digital Badge Proposal form below.

- JMU Marketing and SPCE will work with you to create your digital badge design.
- SPCE will distribute badges to your students through Parchment.
Guidelines for JMU Digital Badges:
- All digital badges at JMU will be coordinated through the School of Professional & Continuing Education (SPCE), in order to maintain JMU brand consistency and ensure that all badges awarded have similar metadata. This consistency will support the quality, meaning, and rigor of the digital badges awarded by JMU.
- The content of those programs that award digital badges will remain the responsibility of the office, academic department, center/institute, or other unit that develops and implements them. SPCE is only maintaining the central digital badge repository and management system (Parchment Digital Badges).
- All programs that wish to award digital badges will provide two types of information: data for the digital badge itself, and richer data about the digital badge requirements and learning outcomes that the digital badge will link to. SPCE will request this information on a form to streamline this process.
- The digital badge description will include the name of the digital badge, description for the public description of the badge, and the skills/competencies the student has demonstrated to earn the badge.
- The student learning information will include student learning outcomes, all requirements that the student must meet to earn the badge, relevant test or certification scores, a plan to assess student learning, documentation of who is authorized to confirm that students have completed all badge requirements, etc.
- SPCE will work with University Marketing & Branding to create the visual digital badge image for each new badge program (including multiple levels of the program, if applicable).
- SPCE will create a web site with documentation of the learning outcomes for all digital badges awarded; each digital badge awarded for a particular program will link back to this program-specific web site so that employers or other external constituents can verify the requirements for the digital badge.
- Once a program is established to award a digital badge, the office, academic department, center/institute, or other unit that manages that program will regularly submit the names and emails of students who have completed all requirements for the digital badge. SPCE will then issue the digital badge within 2 business days, along with instructions to students on how to activate it, add it to their resume/LinkedIn, and provide documentation to the originating unit of completion.
