Student Artist Showcases Art at Disney
News
Abbey Turner, a junior studio art student, recently had the opportunity to create chalk art at Epcot's International Festival of the Arts at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. In February, Abbey traveled to Florida for a weekend and created six pieces of art using chalk to create “bold and captivating pieces”. For Abbey art is not just a hobby; she believes that art is a way of life. She says, “Through my work, I aim to inspire others and create meaningful visual experiences that leave a lasting impression.” Abbey described this experience, in true Disney fashion, as “magical”.
Abbey has been creating chalk art since 2020. As her skills strengthened, she realized that she had strong opportunities to create chalk art professionally, and it was clear to her that the opportunity to create pieces at Disney was not only a dream. It was an obtainable goal. This experience allowed her to utilize her experience as a chalk artist to create fun pieces, while also gaining professional experience. Through this experience, Abbey wants to instill the same inspirations as she had to pursue unique opportunities. She “hopes to inspire others to take creative risks, pursue opportunities that challenge them, and believe in their passions that can lead to meaningful and exciting experiences."
Abbey says, “as a leader it [the experience at Disney] helped me realize the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone, trusting my abilities, and embracing new opportunities.” Abbey also serves as a 2026 Orientation Peer Adviser and is the Communications Director for the Student Government Association, and is from Chesapeake, VA.
