Lee Dyer named as Director of SOGIE

After a competitive national search, Student Affairs at James Madison University is pleased to announce that E. Lee Dyer IV has been selected as the first Director of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE).  

Lee (he/him) comes to us with more than 5 years of experience in higher education, having most recently served as the Associate Director of LGBTQ Campus Life at the University of Richmond. Lee has expertise in LGBTQIA+ advocacy and DEI. His recent accomplishments include delivering the call-to-action speech at the 2021 National Trans March of Visibility, co-founding the inaugural Transmasculine Week of Affirmation and Resilience programmatic summit, and elevating the University of Richmond’s national campus pride index score from 2.5 to 4.5 out of 5-star campus. Lee holds a Bachelor of Political Science from Dillard University and a Master of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University. 

Dr. Tim Miller, Vice President for Student Affairs at JMU, shared “We are fortunate to have Lee join our community and serve our students.” Dr. Brent Lewis, Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, added “Lee was a very impressive and engaging candidate during the interview process, and we are so honored he decided to join us in this inaugural position in SOGIE at JMU. I look forward to the innovative and exciting work Lee and his team will do.”  

Lee shared “I am excited to be part of the JMU family. I look forward to the many partnerships and collaborations that can be built campus wide for SOGIE to serve our LGBTQIA+ community.”
