Carson Lonett named Special Assistant to VP for Student Affairs

Student Affairs at James Madison University is pleased to announce that Carson Lonett (‘13, ‘15M) has been selected to serve as the Special Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs.   

In this new role, Carson will oversee Student Affairs operations, act as the Student Affairs liaison to various campus partners, and manage special projects for the division.

A Double Duke, Carson completed her master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Strategic Leadership, Organizational Science and Leadership here at JMU.

Throughout her career at JMU, Carson has served in various roles and committees, most recently serving as the Coordinator for Leader Development and Experiences in the Student Leadership Center. Prior to that she was in Residence Life as the Assistant Director for Student Learning Initiatives.

Dr. Tim Miller shared, “Carson stepped up during the pandemic to help Student Affairs and JMU and I am forever grateful for her willingness to take on the challenge of this new role. Carson is an exceptional professional and is someone I trust completely due to her passion, commitment to students, and willingness to work until the job is done. I am personally lucky to have the opportunity to know her and work with her every day.”  

Carson is excited to learn and work along with colleagues both in and outside of Student Affairs and she looks forward to creating and growing relationships across divisions to continue to care for and serve JMU students. She shared, “JMU was my first home away from home and has given me so much personally and professionally. I am excited to give back to the people and place that has given me so much.”

She and her partner Marc (also a Double Duke ‘11, ‘12M) live in Harrisonburg with their two children. She will officially start her new role on Aug. 2 and her office will be in Alumnae Hall, Room 207.
