October Campus Sustainability Month events inspire meaningful action

Environmental Stewardship

SUMMARY: In October, JMU joins colleges and universities across the globe to celebrate Campus Sustainability Month and highlight the role of higher education in sustainability through engaging events and opportunities for personal action.

October is Campus Sustainability Month - an international celebration of sustainability in higher education promoted by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Throughout the month, colleges and universities organize events to engage campus stakeholders in environmental stewardship and sustainability. JMU, an active member of AASHE, offers an array of events during Campus Sustainability Month including:

Now through Oct 16
"Courageous Citizenship: Americans Who Tell the Truth" Portrait Exhibit
Visit the "Courageous Citizenship: Americans Who Tell the Truth" Portrait Exhibit on the second floor of the EnGeo Building, which features eight portraits selected that tell the story of Americans whose life’s work is devoted to environmental and societal issues. Since 2002, artist Robert Shetterly has created over 260 oil portraits of American activists – some of whom are well known, others not as much – who are identified as models of courageous citizenship. Their work addresses a wide range of issues, and their stories provide a starting point for important discussions about citizenship, justice, the responsibility of knowledge, and freedom. See all the portraits online
