Reminder to SMAD students: Scholarship deadline is March 1

Media Arts and Design

SMAD students have until March 1 to apply for shares of about $12,000 in competitive scholarships.

Students can apply through the Madison Scholarship Hub on the MyMadison “Student” tab. Once a student fills out the general application form, the system will match that student up with SMAD scholarship and general JMU scholarship opportunities.

Need-based competitive SMAD scholarships that require students to have filed a FAFSA with the university include:

  • Digital Video Group Scholarship: $1,000
  • One Day/One University Scholarship: $1,200
  • Madison Cinema Studies Scholarship: $1,900

Other SMAD scholarships include:

  • Madison Screenwriting Scholarship (shared by two students): $2,400 (deadline is March 5)
  • SMAD Alumni/Professional Advisory Council Scholarship: $1,500
  • Byrd-Mims Journalism Scholarship: $3,400
  • Neckowitz Study-Abroad Scholarship: $500

(The amounts are based on last year’s awards but are expected to be similar in 2021.)

Students who have questions about the application can contact Prof. Mike Grundmann, who is chair of SMAD’s Scholarship Committee, at grundmmj@jmu.edu.
