Senior philosophy major Avi Stein has been named the Outstanding Student in Philosophy by the philosophy faculty at James Madison University.  She will graduate with her bachelor's degree this spring and subsequently attend American University for a master's degree in Ethics, Peace, and Human Rights. When asked about her experience studying philosophy, Stein commented, "When I first came to JMU, I was just a political science major.  After taking my first ethical reasoning class, I discovered a new passion and love: knowledge for knowledge's sake.  Adding philosophy as a second major, I discovered a love of political philosophy, ethics, and moral theory.  The philosophy faculty were always there to support me and help me with my research and reading questions, and nurtured my curiuos spirit.  I already enjoyed reading and writing, but my skills have demonstrably bettered."  Stein noted that the skills she gained in studying philosophy are "practical skills even if I didn't enjoy philosophy!"
