Using License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology, vehicles that have registered to park on campus will be identified by capturing license plate images, thus eliminating the need to display any other kind of parking credential. In other words, your license plate is your permit!

Accurately Enter your License Plate

  • Accuracy is essential when registering for a virtual permit!

  • Please be sure to enter your license plate number(s) and vehicle description(s) correctly in order to avoid unnecessary citations.

  • If your vehicle information changes, such as your license plate or vehicle make and color, be sure to update your account.

Properly Display your License Plate

  • As a condition of parking on campus, all vehicles must be parked with the license plate affixed to the vehicle’s bumper and clearly visible from parking facility travel lanes, in order to be scanned via License Plate Recognition.

  • Vehicle windows or dashboards are not acceptable places to display license plates for scanning.

  • Drivers who would prefer to back in to parking spaces and do not have a front license plate for their vehicle must obtain a special vanity plate from Parking and Transit Services that may be affixed to the front bumper in lieu of a license plate. Vanity plates may be purchased at the Parking and Transit Services office for a one-time fee of $10.00.

  • Vehicles not properly displaying license plates or JMU-issued vanity plates are subject to a citation.
