We’re heading off campus and into the heart of Harrisonburg for a special evening at the Golden Pony (181 N. Main Street)!

Furious Flower Poetry Center is pleased to offer two upcoming events with Nigerian Poet D.M. Aderibigbe, including one just for JMU faculty and staff.

Open Mic & Poetry Reading with D.M. Aderibigbe

Wednesday, February 25 | Open Mic: 6PM | Reading 7:15PM | The Golden Pony

Join us for an open mic and featured reading with poet D.M. Aderibigbe. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to share their own work before the main event. Aderibigbe’s books will be available for purchase, and the evening will conclude with a book signing.

This event is free and open to the public. Bring your students. Bring a friend.

We encourage faculty to share this opportunity with students and to consider offering extra credit or attendance incentives where appropriate. This event is especially relevant for students in HTH 100 who are interested in satisfying their wellness passport requirements.

Creative Writing Workshop for Faculty & Staff with D.M. Aderibigbe

Wednesday, February 25 | 12 - 1:30 PM | Wine-Price: Inspirations Room

You are invited to a special poetry workshop exclusively for JMU faculty and staff, facilitated by visiting poet D.M. Aderibigbe. During this 90-minute session, participants can expect a generative, discussion-centered experience. The workshop may include close reading of selected poems, reflective or creative writing exercises, and conversation about poetry as a practice of observation, introspection, and connection.

No prior experience with poetry is necessary. We welcome the poetry-curious with open arms, and attendees are encouraged to engage at their own comfort level.

We hope you’ll join us, both in the workshop and downtown, as we celebrate poetry in community!
