Event space requests during May 2026 Commencement
NoticesAs we prepare for spring commencement and the associated celebrations, the university will continue the request process implemented last year. All departments and individuals needing event space on Thursday, May 14, Friday, May 15, or Saturday, May 16, will need to submit a request using the form linked below. This applies to spaces managed by Aramark, outdoor venues, and large classrooms, in addition to the event spaces in The Union and Festival Conference and Student Center.
This process is designed to allow us to maximize the number of events being held on campus while minimizing traffic congestion, parking challenges, and catering disruptions. With multiple commencement ceremonies, final exams, and resident move out occurring over the same few days in May, Senior Leadership has agreed to support this event space request process. It is our goal to allow departments to celebrate graduates and their accomplishments with a variety of events while also ensuring efficient and timely access to the commencement ceremonies at the Atlantic Union Bank Center for our graduates and their visiting family members.
A request must be made for any event or program that will use any university space, including academic buildings. In the survey, you will be asked details of your event including the approximate number of attendees, requested location, parking information, time frame, etc.
If you plan more than one event during these dates, please submit a separate request for each.
If you have already submitted your request for May 2026, thank you!
Please complete your online request by Monday, March 9, 2026. This deadline will ensure that there is enough time for the JMU Event Management Team to communicate with each requesting office/department. Please note that reservations are not finalized until you receive confirmation from the JMU Event Management Office.
If you have questions about this process, please contact one of the committee co-chairs, Sarah Ciccone, University Events or Deanna Carter, JMU Event Management.
Thank you in advance, and we are looking forward to working with you.
