David C. Kirkpatrick (Ph.D., University of Edinburgh) is a scholar of religion and politics working at the intersection of global Christianity and the increasing diversity of American religion.  Prior to JMU, Kirkpatrick served on the faculty of Florida State University in American Religious History and the University of Edinburgh in the Centre for the Study of World Christianity. Along with his recent book A Gospel for the Poor (University of Pennsylvania Press), Kirkpatrick publishes widely in academic outlets such as the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Journal of World Christianity, Journal of Ecclesiastical History and the Oxford Encyclopedia of American Religion, and has been quoted in national media such as NBCNews.com

His current research explores the role of global violence in the history of American Christianity.
