Take Back the Night

Sexual violence can happen to anyone, and its impacts can last a lifetime. College students are one of the groups at the highest risk for experiencing sexual violence. However, many people experience sexual violence outside of college with an average of about 293,066 survivors per year. Survivors of sexual violence are all too often met with disbelief, victim blaming, and shame. Take Back the Night is a national program meant to break the silence surrounding sexual violence and empower survivors. On April 7, 2015, Take Back the Night will be taking place here at JMU at Grafton Theatre. Sponsored by the University Health Center, Take Back the Night will include the following events:

6:00pm – Live Introductory Performances.

7:00pm – Keynote Speaker, Wagatwe Wanjuki. Feminist blogger and anti-sexual assault activist.

8:00pm – Survivor Speak Out. Audience members will volunteer their experiences. A candlelit march to follow.
