A year long relationship with Malmo University in Sweden gives JMU's College of Education the opportunity to share innovative research and technologies in the field of Education Technology. Dr. Michelle Estes says currently Malmo University does not currently offer a degree in Educational Technology, as we do at JMU. Her goal at Malmo's 2015 International Week was to share useful information with International Week participants about how advances in research and technology may be applied to global collaborations and pedagogical practices.

Dr. Estes made her first visit to Malmo University in October 2014, with Dr. Katya Koubek and support from OIP. Their goal was to establish new educational partnerships between MU and JMU faculty and Dr. Estes' keynote presentation on October 11 was an extension of that work.  In addition to working with MU Education and Society, Drs. Estes and Koubek visited the Glocal Classroom in the Communications and Development program at MU. The ComDev program connects learners from four continents to participate in graduate work. During the Spring 2015 semester, Estes participated in a STINT grant application with the MU Communications and Development faculty to expand the Glocal Classroom to include JMU in some innovative ways. Although the first grant attempt was unfunded we hope to pursue the idea further. In addition, Estes was recently contacted by Glocal Classroom faculty who have an interest in visiting JMU as part of their fallvisit to Rochester Institute of Technology, another U. S. partner. As a result of their Fall 2014 work, Mr. Mats Johnsson, MU Assistant Professor, came to JMU for a university-wide panel presentation and served as a participant in the 3-year JMU Summit Series. Finally, Dr. Koubek has been working with Dr. Shannon Sauro, MU Associate Professor, to plan an exchange for next Spring 2016.
