Amanda Zwerin and Josh Warren - NYC Alumni Event - 2016

SUMMARY: JMU students Amanda Zwerin and Josh Warren spoke to a group of CoB Alumni in New York City about how they and their peers have benefitted from alumni support.

College of Business (CoB) alumni, representing graduating classes from 1986 to 2012, gathered recently in New York City to network and hear updates from the university. The Oct. 12 event, hosted by Jason Harris, ‘93, was held on the rooftop of Mekanism, the advertising agency he founded and serves as CEO.

JMU students Amanda Zwerin and Josh Warren spoke to the group about how they and their peers have benefitted from alumni support. CoB Dean Mary Gowan also shared plans for the new CoB Learning Complex, which will combine a new building with a renovated Zane Showker Hall (ZSH). The 166,000 square foot facility, which is set to open in 2020, will alleviate the overcrowding in ZSH and provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for future students.

For Warren, the trip provided an opportunity to network with alumni from leading financial firms such as Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs. He enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about their careers and to establish contacts in his field of interest.

“These alumni have paved the way for JMU students to succeed in New York City and want to share their experiences to help current students,” says Warren, a senior double majoring in quantitative finance and economics. “That is the JMU way. The thought process has to be that as alumni give back to us, upperclassmen give back to underclassman, and underclassman give back as they progress through the university. That enables the train to continue to move forward.”
