Molly Brown Named Associate Dean

Associate Dean Molly BrownMolly Brown, Instructor of Accounting and Veris Consulting Faculty Scholar, has been named Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs.  Brown will serve as a member of the dean’s leadership team with primary responsibilities focused on identifying, designing, and implementing programs that will engage students in the College in experiential learning activities and enhance the national reputation of the undergraduate program.

Brown joined JMU as a faculty member in Accounting in 2002. She has a M.S. in Accounting and B.S. in Home Economics from James Madison University. Brown is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant, as well as the Atlantic Coast Region Chapter Advocate and Board Member for Beta Alpha Psi, the honor organization for financial information students and professionals. She received the Accenture Professional Service Award from the CoB in 2013 and the Certified Management Accountant Exam Silver Award for receiving the second highest score in the nation on the CMA exam in 2013.

Brown’s industry experience includes serving as Coordinator of Business and Facilities Services for Blue Ridge Community College and as Auditor of Public Accounts for the State of Virginia. She has also owned and operated an independent retail picture framing business. She has also been active in community service roles.

Brown teaches Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Cost Accounting.  She has been instrumental in the development and success of the annual School of Accounting “Meet the Firms” event and the recognitions received by the Beta Alpha Psi chapter at JMU.  Her passion is working with students to prepare them to become successful professionals, prepared to make the difference in their careers and communities.

Dean Mary Gowan says, “We are pleased to welcome Molly Brown as the new Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs. Molly brings a strong track record of equipping students to be successful business professionals and leaders and in developing employer relationships.  The Dean Team in the CoB looks forward to working with her in her new role.”
