Using Drones and AI to Clear Ukraine's Landmines

(IEEE Spectrum) In 2023, the founders of Safe Pro AI conducted a drone-based technology demonstration in Ukraine for the United Nations, aiming to detect landmines and other ordnance over a vast area. They successfully identified 74 mines and ordnance, leading to further partnerships with humanitarian nonprofits like the Norwegian People’s Aid and the HALO Trust to clear explosives in Ukraine.

Their technology, SpotlightAI, utilizes drones and AI to detect explosive ordnance, revolutionizing traditional mine-clearing methods. Despite challenges like detecting buried explosives and navigating through dense vegetation, Safe Pro AI continues to improve its technology with the goal of making demining operations safer and more efficient worldwide.
