Over 900 Firearms Destroyed in Belize

(7 News Belize) Members of the Belize Police Department, Defense Force, and Coast Guard underwent weapons and ammunition management training, graduating with knowledge tested in the Weapons Destruction initiative. Over 900 unserviceable weapons were destroyed through collaborative efforts involving the Mines Advisory Group, CARICOM IMPACS, and the British High Commission.

The initiative focuses on proper disposal, storage, management, and transport of illegal firearms and ammunition, preventing their diversion to criminal networks. The program contributes to reducing armed violence by ensuring obsolete or confiscated weapons are destroyed. Training includes dismantling firearms to prevent reassembly. The efficient destruction of over 900 weapons marks a significant milestone for law enforcement and citizen safety in Belize.
