Syria: DCA Rehabilitates Schools, Educates on Risks, Supports Communities

(DanChurchAid) In 2023, Syria faces a complex crisis with 13.4 million needing humanitarian aid. 6.9 million, 97% children, require education, impacted by COVID-19 closures and explosive ordnance contamination. DanChurchAid launched a project in Northern Deir Ez Zohr aimed to rehabilitate two schools, cleared of hazards, enabling (re)access to education. DCA engaged communities for ownership, fostering positive relationships.

Risk education improved awareness, saving lives, and enhancing communities' ability to cope with conflict effects. The case of Abu Janadel highlights successful clearance and school infrastructure rehabilitation, providing recreational and WASH facilities. DCA operates in Northeast Syria since 2015, focusing on mine action and community support.
