8-year-old killed in a landmine explosion in Kyaikmaraw Township, Myanmar

(BNI Multimedia Group) An eight-year-old girl was killed in a landmine explosion that occurred  in Kyaikmaraw Township on January 19.

Early in the morning of  January 18, an 8-year-old girl was throwing garbage at the rubbish dump of the corner of Panglong Road and West Football Stadium Road, Yan Myo Aung Ward, when a landmine exploded.

"The girl was seriously injured and was taken to Mawlamyine Hospital via the Kyaikmaraw Township Hospital," said a local.

The girl died at the Mawlamyine General Hospital at around 11 am.   

Unexploded ordnance was also found at the township electricity office the evening before this tragedy.  On  January 16, a bomb exploded in Chaung Nge Khu village, -- no one was injured nor was their any reported property damage.
