Tunisia's forgotten victims of jihadist landmines

CISR

SUMMARY: In recent years, Tunisia's centre-west Kasserine region has become the target of terrorist attacks. Locals living in the mountains that surround the region are sometimes victims of homemade mines, likely scattered by insurgents across the mountain chain. Armed groups in the mountains come down to more populated areas to resupply and threaten locals. Although security forces have marked some zones as "red zones" and militarised them, they are usually poorly marked out and locals risk their lives going out to farm the mountains, their only means of making a living.
