CHBS Pathways Inspires Middle School Students
The College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS) welcomed over 130 local middle school students to Pathways, where JMU students, staff, and faculty collaborated to inspire interest in health-related careers and majors for the middle school students.
Low-Residency Increases Access to Counseling & Supervision
A unique teaching approach in the Counseling & Supervision PhD program in the Graduate Psychology department allows students to pursue a doctorate while maintaining full-time work and balancing personal responsibilities.
Student Joins Nutrition and Dietetics Accredidation Council
Kaitlyn Good, a first-year master’s student in the Applied Nutrition program, was selected to serve as student representative for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, the accrediting body for nutrition programs, including the programs at JMU.
Nursing Partnership in Ghana
An impactful 10-day study abroad trip over winter session was just the first step in what will hopefully be a long-standing, mutually beneficial relationship between JMU School of Nursing and Garden City University College in Kumasi, Ghana
Other Highlights
- Kinesiology’s Human Performance Lab fosters student and faculty collaboration in conducting and publishing exercise and health-related research that seeks to understand how to support “optimal” human performance in physical health.
- The PA Program’s class of 2023 passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam, a board-certifying exam, at a 94% pass rate. In line with the trend set by previous cohorts, the December 2023 graduates of the JMU PA Program have achieved a pass rate over the national exam pass rate, continuing the program’s tradition of excellence.
- In Februrary, students participated in the Life in a State of Poverty Simulation, organized by Interprofessional/Interdisicplinary Education every semester. The simulation seeks to sensitize students to the impacts of poverty and the systems low-income families navigate to strengthen their understanding of the scope of practice for their future careers.
