SUMMARY: Last month the Reading Road Show - Gus Bus and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB) collaborated to bring fresh fruits and vegetables, farmer's market style, to all twelve Gus Bus neighborhood sites.

Last month the Reading Road Show- Gus Bus and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB) collaborated to bring fresh fruits and vegetables, farmer’s market style, to all twelve Gus Bus neighborhood sites.

During the week of June 19-22, 2017, the BRAFB brought fresh produce to three different Gus Bus neighborhoods each night. Carrots, watermelons, broccoli, peaches, sweet potatoes, and heads of cabbage were just some of the food varieties offered free to children and families living in the Stone Spring and Spotswood Elementary school districts.

Throughout the week families filled bags with veggies and fruit. The neighborhood markets served 772 people in 177 families, respectively 396 children and 376 adults.

Another week of markets is scheduled for the month of July, from July 17-20:

Monday, July 17:

  • 4-5 p.m. Commercial Court
  • 5-6 p.m. E. Gay & Summit Street
  • 6-7 p.m. Broad & Wolfe Street

Tuesday, July 18:

  • 4-5 p.m. Holly Court
  • 5-6 p.m. Avalon Woods
  • 6-7 p.m. Chestnut Ridge

Wednesday, July 19:

  • 4-5 p.m. Dutch Mill Court
  • 5-6 p.m. Deer Run
  • 6-7 p.m. 1330 Port Republic Road

Thursday, July 20:

  • 4-5 p.m. Lincoln Circle
  • 5-6 p.m. Ridgeway Church Parking Lot
  • 6-7 p.m. Franklin Heights
