SUMMARY: Faculty & Student News: March 2018 Edition


Congratulations to the following Biology faculty members and students:

  • Dr. Rocky Parker published a paper in Journal of Chemical Ecology with coauthors on estrogen manipulation of brown treesnakes.
  • A case study by Dr. T.J. Hynd, Berkeley (former faculty), and Drs. Daniel, Brown, and Velayudhan was accepted to the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science.  The case is titled “A SWEET TREATment” and covers the physiology and pathophysiology of type II diabetes.
  • Dr. Parker gave a live interview to BYU radio (Top of Mind with Julie Rose) about the Burmese python work where we are using this hormonally-modified Judas approach
  • Dr. Parker was interviewed by a reporter for National Geographic as an expert in python behavior (article was covering a new paper showing maternal behavior in African rock pythons; not my work)
  • Jillian Breault (student of Dr. Jon Monroe) received a $500 travel grant to attend the ASBMB meeting in San Diego in April and will start a PhD in Biochemistry at Cornell University in the fall.
  • Lauren Pope (student of Dr. Jon Monroe) received a $575 travel grant to attend the ASPB meeting in Montreal in July and will start a PhD in Plant Biology at Stanford University in the fall.
