When Mary Ta ('13) heads for South Africa in 2014, the honors student will embark on a lifelong dream of studying abroad and seeding a career working with nonprofits. As recipient of a $27,000 Rotary Foundation scholarship, Mary, a double major in history and justice studies from Fairfax, Va., will study conflict resolution. "I became passionate in humanitarian issues in Africa as I learned more and more about global issues and gained knowledge through classes, books and, of course, the amazing professors at JMU," she says. With this foundation of learning and scholarship, there's little doubt that, someday, Mary's passion will change lives.
