Though his freshman football season ended a disappointing 2–10, the Dukes battled back to win the national championship his senior year. “The person that I am, how I deal with adversity, I learned that through athletics here at JMU,” he said. “I believe I am a defender of democracy, and I’m going to keep fighting for that.”
