In January 2026, JMU Student Success Analytics joined colleagues from Student Academic Success, University Advising, Dean of Students, and Learning, Technology, & Leadership Education at the Association for Undergraduate Education at Research Universities (UERU) National Conference in Washington. The participants from JMU represented four different competitively selected sessions, ranging across student success, data analytics, and advising.

Picture of JMU representatives posing for picture at UERU conferenceVice Provost for Student Academic Success Dr. Rudy Molina shared that, "UERU leadership was clearly delighted to see such strong representation from JMU, recognizing the collaborative efforts across various units and divisions to support our students. Moreover, it was enjoyable to load up a JMU van and create new professional experiences together. These moments not only strengthen our bonds but our capacity to develop more programs and support for our students."

Regina Wine-Nash, Zhen Zhang, and Paul Mabrey presented across three different topics: seat enrollment projection, data-informed retention campaigns, and collaboration with colleagues in Student Affairs. Regina and Paul's poster on campaigns showcased proactive outreach strategies aligned with the student life cycle. From strengths-based text messages to targeted email campaigns, these efforts aim to close retention gaps and empower students to seek help when needed.

Regina reflected that "Attending UERU was a great reminder that student success is not a single initiative but a shared commitment." This shared commitment to student success is demonstrated in Regina's presentation with Dom Rodriquez on collaboration across Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and Zhen and Paul's poster on projecting enrollment seat needs with colleagues across Academic Affairs. They offered insights not just into the predictive modeling tools, but what value data-driven insights provide working alongside colleagues within departments sharing the same insights.

Ashley Gerhardt and Maddie Martin also attended the conference, taking advantage of the opportunity to learn more about coaching and other student success initiatives. Maddie said, "The UERU 2026 conference felt like a springboard that will help us propel our success coaching efforts to greater heights...we connected with colleagues from University of Delaware to learn more about how they have created online Canvas modules centered on common topics in student success, like time management, organization, or belonging."
