Relationship expert on emotional support in time for Valentine’s Day
JMU NewsJennie Rosier, director of The Relationships, Love & Happiness Project and associate professor of communication studies at James Madison University, is available to discuss common relationship myths, self-love and the importance of emotional support between partners.
“Although social support is vital to relationship success, providing good support is sometimes difficult to do. In fact, it’s really difficult. Not because we don’t want to support our partners, but because most of us don’t know how,” says Rosier.
“It’s not enough to just say, ‘I support you,’ you have to show your partner that when it comes down to it, you will be there through thick and thin.”
As an expert in romantic and parent-child relationships, Rosier focuses much of her research, speaking, and writing on the communication skills needed to maintain these bonds including empathy, respect, sex talk and attachment.
Rosier received her doctorate from Purdue University, her master’s from Auburn University and her bachelor’s from the University of Maryland College Park; all of which focused on interpersonal communication.
