Campus transportation updates for 2012 - 2013

A number of measures have been taken to navigate the JMU campus easier as we begin a new academic year.

The four traffic gates around campus will once again be in full operation beginning at 7:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2012.  Traffic will be restricted through the Bluestone section of campus from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

As before, only vehicles with special permission, such as transit buses, emergency vehicles, JMU service vehicles, and vehicles of drivers who have received access to handicapped parking, will be able to travel through the gated portion of campus when the gates are in operation.

Because parking in the interior campus will be limited when the gates are in use, please be sure to park in the coded lots that correspond with your parking permit.  Be aware that the fees for metered parking on campus have increased.  For more information about everything related to parking, including a parking map of the JMU campus, go to https://www.jmu.edu/parking.

While the Convo Express has been discontinued this year, inner-campus shuttles will run continuous loops on campus from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and arrive at stops about every 10 minutes.  Route 11 has been added to accommodate the Chandler Hall, Festival, and North Campus areas.

Pedestrians need to note that the crosswalk on Carrier Drive just before you reach the east side of campus has been restructured to consolidate two crosswalks into one, which should make it easier to cross and allow for a better traffic flow.
