JMU Community Invited to Comment on Quality Enhancement Finalists

Six proposals for enhancing the quality of learning across James Madison University have been selected as finalists from a group of 76 proposals submitted earlier this year by faculty, staff and students. 

In November, the JMU community was asked to submit proposals as the university began a reaffirmation of accreditation process through the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. A major component of the reaffirmation process, which occurs every 10 years, is developing a quality enhancement plan. 

The six finalists will now enter a final review process that will culminate with one plan being selected for funding and implementation. The plans will be reviewed by teams consisting of the original proposers and experts from areas across campus potentially involved in implementation. The task before each team is to develop a white paper detailing how their plan might be successfully implemented. The white papers must be submitted by June 20. 

The six plans address the areas of: 

• Enhancing Citizenship
• Enhancing Academic Engagement through Creativity
• Enhancing Courses through Technology
• Enhancing Intellect and Experience through a Local Pedagogy of Place
• Enhancing Character (2)

As the teams work, the JMU community again is invited to stay involved by submitting comments and ideas on the finalists by May 31.
