JMU Planetarium Opens Season With Moon Samples, Full-Dome Movie

Rock and soil samples collected from the moon during Apollo missions in the 1970s will be on display 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the John C. Wells Planetarium at James Madison University.

The moon samples, encased in a clear plastic disc, are on loan from NASA and are being shown in conjunction with the first showing of the full-dome movie, "Dawn of the Space Age." 

The 30-minute movie features the beginnings of manned space exploration and will be shown continuously from 2-5 p.m. The planetarium is located in JMU's Miller Hall along Grace Street. The shows are free and open to the public. Seating is based on first come, first served. 

Planetarium representatives will be available to discuss and answer questions about the moon samples.
