Madison for Keeps Fund Tops $100,000

With its Homecoming Weekend decision to give $25,000 to James Madison University's Madison for Keeps campaign, the board of the JMU Alumni Association made a commitment to ensure that current students have the opportunity to remain at the university - and to enjoy future Homecomings as alumni.

The board's Oct. 17 contribution brings the Madison for Keeps current total to $111,495. Funds designated for the emergency initiative will provide immediate aid to JMU students who are at risk of not being able to return for spring semester.

In addition to the $25,000 contribution, each board member committed to make an individual gift.

"The board members wanted to recognize and encourage the extraordinary giving to Madison for Keeps we are seeing from all JMU alumni," said A-J Fischer, president of the JMU Alumni Association. "We hope the gifts from the Alumni Association and from each of the board members inspire even more alumni and friends of JMU to join us in giving to this critically needed fund."

"Money raised through 'Madison for Keeps' will make a significant difference in the lives of our students who face unexpected and severe economic hurdles right now," said Dr. Joanne Carr, senior vice president for university advancement. "I am proud of the alumni board's contribution and the contributions of more than 1,000 individual JMU graduates in helping our current students."

The Madison for Keeps campaign continues through Dec. 31.

The JMU Alumni Association mission is to connect alumni to extend the JMU experience. The association creates an environment that engages, enriches and celebrates the university and alumni, building lifelong relationships.
