The Governor has granted an early release Friday, September 4, for the Labor Day* holiday weekend.  Since this early release occurs during the Fall academic calendar, the university will designate these hours as a floating holiday.

The university has granted 4.00 hours of recognition leave to all full-time classified staff and A&P Faculty to use at their discretion in its full 4.00-hour increment on or before Monday, December 21, 2026. This 4.00 hours of additional recognition leave is effective and visible in MyMadison on September 4, 2026. To use the leave with supervisor approval, select the RL TAKEN option in the drop-down list in MyMadison and enter the 4.0-hour amount.

Questions may be directed to Reagan Neese, Senior Benefits Specialist, at neeserw@jmu.edu.

* The university does not observe Labor Day, Monday, September 7, as a holiday.  Instead, those 8.0 hours are already designated as a floating holiday and applied to the 2026 winter break.
