Career Tools 1: How to get the Right Things Done and Live to Tell the Story

This talk summarizes a range of tools that help us identify what we want to get done in our work (and our life) and get those things done while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Then it invites participants into a conversation about their reactions to what’s been presented, what they do to further their goals, and what suggestions *they* would offer. It does not promise participants that they will actually achieve what they want to get done — it’s just tools. Yes, that’s kinda funny. But we have to start somewhere.

This is the first of a series of 4 Career Tools sessions offered throughout the 2024 academic year. Following are the other online sessions which will have separate registrations.

Location: Online (The Zoom link is provided with either the registration confirmation or reminder email (sent 24 hours prior to the event date).


Program Outcomes - By considering a range of planning tools, participants will make progress toward:

  • Engaging in reflective practices about their faculty roles
  • Identifying and implementing effective strategies for career advancement
  • Identifying strategies to maintain balance in work-life continuum

CREATE ACCOUNT/LOG IN: The registration link (below) will direct you to the CFI Program Registration site (this is a new process from last year - JMU DUO isn't required). If this is your first time visiting the registration page this semester, you will need to create a new account using your JMU email ( Be sure to clear your browser cache/cookies upon each visit to the registration page.


  • The current programs should auto-populate on your screen after creating your account of the mandatory forms. However, to view the programs any time afterwards, when you log in click on "Add to Cart" from the bullet list under the Registration on the Dashboard. Anything already added to your cart appears under "MY CART."
    • Select the program and specific date you would like to attend 


Register by: Registration is open; however, we recommended registering the day before to ensure participation confirmation and any online meeting link information is received.


If you find that you are unable to attend a scheduled event prior to the registration deadline, please return to your "CFI Program Account" and cancel your registration. If it is after the event registration deadline, please email as early as possible.

CFI programs will be canceled automatically if JMU is closed for inclement weather.
