Welcome to November! Not only has snow arrived before we were expecting it, it is likely that the end of December will arrive faster than expected too. With the known holidays where the university will be closed, to the exam and grading time requirements, to the expected staff and office meetings that take place during the ‘down time’ when students are not on campus, it is easy to lose track of requirements related to sponsored projects. So that opportunities and requirements do not go unanswered, please consider expediting the following activities if the deadline for it is January 15, 2012 or before:

National Science Foundation Publishes Reports on State of Academic Research

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has published new reports on how federal research dollars flowed to colleges and universities in 2009 and the status of graduate students and postdoctoral scientists in research fields in 2008. The first report contains a wide array of data on the institutions that received the most federal research funds over all and by discipline, for instance; the latter includes statistics on the future work force in academic science by field, gender, institution type and other indicators. http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/nsf11313/?WT.mc_id=USNSF_179
