Asbestos Emergency Response

In response to asbestos emergencies the following is recommended:

  1. Once the building is evacuated, have the lock shop develop the necessary number of rings of emergency access keys for all internal areas. Observe strict controls on distribution, logging, and retrieval of these rings.

  2. Have the lock shop fabricate and insert "construction" plugs for the lock cores at all building entrances (to prevent inadvertent access to the building by unprotected and unauthorized persons). Distribute contractor pass keys" to authorized persons. Observe strict controls on distribution, logging, and retrieval of these special access keys.

  3. Have Police Officer(s) (who have received appropriate training) suit up in protective gear to accompany persons taking air samples in normally secure areas such as cashier stations, sensitive and protected record storage, and normally restricted administrative offices.
