RMH – JMU IRB Collaboration supports research intiatives
The recommendation to include representatives on each other’s IRB was suggested at the initial launch of the RMH - JMU Collaborative in January 2007. That recommendation was implemented and has accomplished several important goals. Federal Guidelines require that each IRB include a member that is external to the organization. By naming a member from each other's IRB that requirement is met. It fosters a more complete understanding of the research priorities and institutional processes. Both JMU and RMH benefit from this collaboration through enhanced access to resources in statistical analysis, ethical decision-making regarding research, HIPAA issues, and outside research expertise. Participants include Betsy Early and Helen Young from RMH and Ming Ivory and Elizabeth Pharr from JMU.
