For SPIA, civic engagement

  • Is the process of becoming aware of and committed to taking the steps needed to bring about community improvement. 

  • Consists of individual and collective action aimed at solving problems and building stronger communities at the local, national, and international levels. 

  • Involves collaboration in dialogue, deliberation, and decision-making with the goal of promoting civic skills and addressing public problems.
