Originally from Philadelphia, Marty Cohen attended Tufts University and the Pennsylvania State University getting his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Penn State. He then received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Marty’s dissertation deals with the growing electoral influence of the religious right in the Republican Party. He is also one of four co-authors of an upcoming book from the University of Chicago that re-examines the role of parties in presidential nominations. A selection from this book currently appears as the opening chapter in the newly released The Making of the Presidential Candidates 2008.
Marty regularly teaches classes on the Christian right, as well as classes on political parties and interest groups. He also has more than a passing interest in the politics of the 1960s.
