In the fall of odd numbered years, JMU is required to submit to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) enrollment projections for three biennia (6 years). The current projections includes the years 2018-19 through 2024-25 . The next projections will be approved in Fall 2019 and span the years 2020-21 through 2026-27. JMU is required to project headcount and degrees conferred on many dimensions:

  • academic programs(undergraduate, graduate and certificates)
  • location of degree-related courses taken
  • residency (in-state and out-of-state)
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Math-Health (STEM-H)

The amount of funds provided to JMU by the Virginia General Assembly and internal funding decisions are predicated on the accuracy of the projections.
