Tips for Exam Week

News

Exam week is a tough time for any student, but with these tips, you are sure to stay sane and crush those tests!

  • Take breaks. While it is easy to feel like you don’t have any time to relax, taking breaks will actually make you think better and make your study time more productive. Recognize when you are losing too much focus and take 10 minutes to go for a walk, watch a funny video, look at cats online, or have a healthy snack so that when you are done, your brain is ready to fire!
  • Sleep well. Think twice before pulling that all-nighter. Sleeping a full 8 hours has been shown to lead to better cognitive function, better memory, and better concentration. Giving your brain time to solidify all the memories you’ve given it while studying and to recharge is proven to give you a better score on that exam.
  • Stay calm. Freaking out and letting yourself get anxious about a test will cause you to make more small errors and second-guess yourself. If you find yourself in a panic, take a second to breathe slowly and get yourself calm.
  • Get Advice. JMU has several different learning centers can provide assistance with studying Visit The Learning Center to find out more.

**The Counseling Center Peer Mentor program will be offering a stress management workshop on Monday, December 3rd from 8-9pm in Festival Conference Room 4.**
