Tina and Phil share a common vision: They see potential. She, as a visual resources specialist (now staff emerita) in the School of Art, Design and Art History, and he, as a Realtor (now referral agent). Tina envisioned and implemented the innovative Madison Digital Image Database (MDID). Phil served on the JMU Foundation Board and helped in the planning and development of the Shenandoah Valley Conference Center and Hotel Madison. The Updikes believe that giving back is an obligation of every JMU graduate. They established the Paul E. and Lillieanna P. Beck Professorship in Art to honor her parents and have made a legacy commitment as Madison Foundation Society members. It was Phil and Tina’s desire to lead by example to foster “potential” at JMU.
