Homecoming 2014

JMU in the Community

Homecoming 2014, Oct 31 - Nov 1

The James Madison University Alumni Association is coordinating a full week of Homecoming events for students and alumni. Homecoming weekend, October 31 - November 2 will bring thousands of alumni to Harrisonburg to reconnect with fellow alums and faculty members and to cheer on the Dukes.

Some of the weekend highlights include the Homecoming Golf Tournament on Friday, Oct. 31, sponsored by the Harrisonburg Alumni Chapter. This year the tournament is being played in its new home, Spotswood Country Club. Friday night alums are encouraged to head downtown to check out Harrisonburg’s revitalized restaurant scene.

Homecoming Headquarters 2Saturday, Nov. 1, all alumni are encouraged to stop by Homecoming Headquarters on Godwin field to pick up some JMU “swag,” visit with representatives from the Colleges and get your photo taken with Duke Dog.  We’ve invited four local food trucks, including our own JMU Starbucks truck to the field this year. Homecoming Headquarters is free and you do not need to register. At 3 p.m. head into the game to hear the winner of our first alumn National Anthem Contest winner, Joshua Brown ('13) and cheer on your Dukes v. William & Mary Tribe starting at 3:30 p.m.

RelfexSaturday night the JMUAA is sponsoring ‘80s Night at Homecoming featuring ‘80s tribute band, The Reflex. This promises to be an epic night – you’ll know every song and dance until the end. Tickets are on sale now and will also be on sale Saturday at Homecoming Headquarters (tickets will not be available at the door).

Throughout the week leading up to Homecoming student events will be taking place on campus. The annual Purple Out T-shirt give away will bring thousands of students to the Festival Lawn on Monday, Oct. 27.  The Student Alumni Association will host several events including Pep My Ride on Tuesday and Fight Song T-shirt Day on Friday.

Alumni and students are encouraged to use #JMUHomecoming to follow the action on social media. All students, faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to wear PURPLE on Friday, Oct. 31 to get in the spirit of Homecoming.  Go Dukes!
