Fourth Annual Freshman Design Competition

JMU News

Over 100 School of Engineering students put their design skills to work during the Fourth Annual Freshman Design Competition at JMU.  New this year, each team was provided an identical set of materials and a two-hour time frame to design, prototype, and test a device to “fling” a stuffed “Duke dog”.

The competition is an introduction to the engineering design process. Students are evaluated on design, economy, sustainability, team collaboration, and technical performance.  Beginning in their freshman year, students design and build projects in almost every semester until the end of their senior year. They work together and get to know one another, the faculty, and our industry partners.
