Panel to Discuss Health Care Reform and the Future of Nursing

Health care reform and its implications for the future of nursing will be discussed by nursing experts at noon Tuesday, April 13, at the James Madison University Festival Conference and Student Center. 

A four-member panel will discuss the issue as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Sigma Theta Tau International's Pi Mu Chapter-At-Large Nursing Honor Society at JMU and Eastern Mennonite University. Panelists will be Dr. Melody Eaton, nursing program director and department chair at Longwood University; Dr. David Cockley, associate professor of health sciences at JMU; John Taylor, CEO of Valley Health Plan; and Susan Motley of the Virginia Nurses Association. 

Sigma Theta Tau International is a not-for-profit organization that strives to improve the health of people worldwide through leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research. Founded in 1922, the honor society has inducted more than 400,000 members in more than 90 countries. The Pi Mu Chapter-at-Large at JMU and EMU was chartered in April 2000 and has more 700 qualified nurses and nursing students. 

Area nurses are invited to attend the conference to celebrate nursing excellence in the Shenandoah Valley. The anniversary celebration begins at 8:30 a.m.
