José Ignacio Barrio Olano is a Professor of Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures at James Madison University (https://www.jmu.edu/forlang/people/all-people/barrio-jose.shtml). He holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from Columbia University and a Licenciatura in Romance Philology from the University of Deusto, Spain. Prior to his arrival in JMU as an Assistant Professor, he had extensive international teaching experience, at the University of Warsaw, Poland, at Yarmouk University, Jordan, at the Instituto Cervantes in Cairo, Egypt, and at Columbia University, New York. His main research interests are Spanish Golden Age Literature and Semantics. He currently teaches History of Spanish Culture and Society and Spanish literary courses.
