Our students come from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds

The International Master’s Program in Environmental Management and Sustainability is interdisciplinary.  Our students come from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds including geography, engineering, archaeology, chemistry, wildlife studies, psychology, biology, agriculture, environmental science (or studies), and physics. This diversity is a valued strength in our program. To qualify for admission, you must have a relevant bachelor’s degree.

Key Dates and Deadlines

February 15, 2017

Priority application deadline for U.S. and Canadian applicants. Notification of priority admissions decisions should be made by March 15. Applications received after February 15 will be reviewed on a rolling admissions basis.

April 15, 2017

Deadline for applications from all regions. There is no guarantee of admissions review for application materials received after this date.

U.S. and Canada Applicants

Applicants from the United States and Canada (citizens and permanent residents) must apply through the James Madison University online graduate school application system. In addition to completing the online form, U.S. and Canadian applicants will need to provide:

  • GRE scores
  • An official or unofficial undergraduate transcript
  • A resume that includes all educational and work experience
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can address your ability to successfully complete a program of graduate study
  • A 400-600 word statement of interest; instructions and a sample statement are available here.

All other Applicants

All other applicants should apply through the University of Malta’s International Master’s Program website. Applicants from Malta, Europe, and other regions do not need to submit GRE scores but should have a recognized bachelor's honors degree at second class or better. Applicants from non-English speaking countries will need to demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting a TOEFL or equivalent Secure English Language Test.
