Joy Martin


Joy has a background in the medical field, returning to academia in mid-life, she completed her graduate degree in counseling.  She has been working in higher education since 2006 and in student disability services since 2010.  She enjoys riding tandem recumbent bicycle with her husband on Rails to Trails, hand quilting, and perennial gardening.  Joy’s favorite activity is anything that includes her two grandsons.  She is grateful for the opportunity she has been given to support students with disabilities and also lead the Learning Strategies Team at JMU.

Katherine Catanzaro


Katherine is a graduate student pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching in elementary education. She enjoys hiking with friends and family, taking spontaneous road trips, and going to concerts! As the LSI Graduate Assistant for the Spring 2019 semester, Katherine looks forward to helping her peers excel in their classes by using the learning strategies LSI has to offer.

Iliana Ioannides


Iliana is a senior IdLS major with minors in Inclusive Early Childhood Education (IECE) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in the 5 year MAT program from Long Island, New York. Upon graduation, she hopes to be a Kindergarten teacher wherever the world takes her! As an LSI Peer Educator, Iliana hopes to help guide as many students as possible toward a pathway of success.


Katie Twigg


Katie is a junior English major from Glenelg, MD. She is minoring in Secondary Education and Special Education. Katie hopes to be a high school English teacher in her home county where she graduated from. She enjoys hiking, sports, reading, and going on trips with friends and family. Katie hopes to one day visit every continent. As a peer educator, Katie looks forward to helping students improve as students and individuals by showing them what LSI has to offer.

Alaina Agatone


Alaina is a junior Communication Sciences & Disorders major with a minor in Special Education. She is from Broomall, Pennsylvania a.k.a. “Outside of Philly.” In her free time she enjoys watching movies, sitting in cafes, and traveling with her friends and family. As a LSI Peer Educator, she hopes to help students realize their full potential and aid them in obtaining their own vision of success here at JMU.

Taylor Beckel


Taylor is a senior IdLS major with a minor in Elementary Education from Westchester, NY. One day, she would love to teach abroad to combine her love of teaching and traveling. DUring her free time, Taylor enjoys listening to music, drawing, and spending time with family friends. As an LSI Peer Educator, she hopes to help students find confidence in themselves and their academic abilities!


Morgan Hilton


Morgan is a sophomore IDLS major from Deptford, NJ with a minor in Elementary Education. With her degree, she one day hopes to teach fifth grade at a TItle I school in Washington DC. In her free time, Morgan likes to travel. As a peer educator, Morgan looks forward to seeing the tremendous improvements many students make after utilizing the different learning strategies that LSI offers.
