Minor in Coaching Education

The coaching education minor provides students interested in athletic coaching with the opportunity to gain knowledge and applied experiences in the profession.  The focus is on preparing students for the coaching profession at the high school and younger level.  Our program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE) as a Level 3 coaching education program.

Curriculum

The 20-credit minor in coaching education consists of 6 courses plus a 3-credit capstone experience.  The requirements are distributed as follows:

Techniques of Sport (2 credits)

Courses offered on coaching by sport. If the cell contains an "X" the course is offered in the corresponding semester column. If the cell is empty, the course is not offered in the corresponding semester.

  1. Submit a request to change your minor (https://www.jmu.edu/cap/students/choose/declare.shtml)
  2. Meet with the coaching education advisor (her/his name and contact information will be provided when you submit your request).  Please know that your request will not be reviewed until you have met with the coaching education advisor.
