Duke Hall, Health Center, other departments to move to North Campus

From: Public Affairs

With the acquisition of the former Rockingham Memorial Hospital complex and upcoming renovation and expansion to Duke Hall, there are many changes occurring on campus. Names for the North Campus have been selected: Constitution Hall (formerly the West and North Towers); Madison Hall (formerly RMH Cancer Center); and Montpelier Hall (formerly the East Tower.)

Plans are under way to ensure all JMU departments transitioning into Montpelier Hall will be in place and operational when students return for the spring 2012 semester. Following is the planned directory for this new space.

Montpelier Hall
First floor: Computer labs, fine arts classrooms, Fibers and Weaving
Second floor: Office of Institutional Research and fine arts classrooms
Third floor: University Communications and Marketing, faculty and staff offices from Duke Hall
Fourth and Fifth floors: University Health Center

There are a few transportation changes to note. While the current North Campus traffic pattern will remain in effect, lot N1and the small lot on the corner of Cantrell Avenue and Mason Street (in front of the former RMH emergency room entrance) will close in late 2011.

Beginning in January 2012, parking for the University Health Center will be available in front of Montpelier Hall. There will be additional changes to the parking that is available around Madison Hall; more information will be released once the spaces are allocated.
